چکیده

Abstract The Cretaceous sediments in southwestern Nigeria are host to one of the largest bitumen deposits world. In current paper, an integrated study on sedimentology, palynology, and applied petroleum geochemistry Maastrichtian-Paleocene Araromi Formation was used determine depositional environments hydrocarbon potentials formation eastern Dahomey Basin. Four sedimentary lithofacies were identified from core samples, namely, lower limestone (F 1 ); medium coarse-grained sandstone 2 loosely consolidated 3 shale siltstone 4 ). Sedimentation Basin occurred mainly fluvial shallow-marine (shelf) environments. palynological assemblages reflect deposition coastal through brackish water shallow shelf environment with periods localized wind-induced storms. samples characterized by total organic carbon (TOC) values up 2.50 wt % S (hydrocarbon-generating potential) ranging 0.26 0.70 mgHC/g rock, indicating poor source rocks. Shales show quality thermally immature matter at depth could neither have generated liquid nor contributed heavy oil occurrence tar-sand belt (Benin)

Pebble Form Indices As Signatures Of The Depositional Environment Of The Benin Formation Along Atamiri River, Uli, South – Eastern Nigeria

The Benin Formation is well exposed along the Atamiri River, which traverses Uli town, in the Niger Delta Basin of Southeastern Nigeria. Lithologic sections were measured, described and sampled so as to decipher the paleodepositional environment, using an integration of lithofacies data, pebble morphology, grain size and paleocurrent analysis. The lithofacies study suggests that the Benin Forma...
